Level 2 Training Testimonies

Rona

I am from Honduras. I was born a Catholic. I married young and had two wonderful children, Nelsi and Carlos, but my husband was very abusive so I divorced him. When I was 18 years old a co-worker shared with me about Jesus. She invited me to church. There I heard the testimony of a Christian who suffered due to his belief: his family kicked him out of the house. This greatly challenged me as I had no commitment and no relationship with God. I started reading the Bible. A neighbor who was a believer began to answer my questions. I lived in a simple village that had a house of prayer run by some nuns. Some Protestants went there and began to run the prayer house, and at one of their services I went forward. I wrestled with whether to be Protestant or Catholic. So for a while I went to both. I just wished to learn about God. I soon began to talk to others about my experience in coming to know Jesus personally. Several of my friends and co-workers came to Christ.

My calling to go overseas was right from the beginning. I always want to go and share with others. I thought of going to a local tribal group, and I shared this desire with my pastor. My pastor directed me instead to reach out to Muslims. My church is focusing on reaching those in the 10/40 Window. The church voted to support and send me overseas.

In church I currently work in a ministry with the 40 deaf people all who belong to our church.

I have worked as a seamstress working out of my home for 30 years. When I was 17 I took a course on how to sew and cut. Then I worked in a design shop for a few years, but it was difficult to mother my children so I began my own business working out of my house. I now have six full-time employees and four machines. I employ deaf people part-time. I also offer classes, teaching others to sew too.

Though my church is behind me, both my grown children are married and find it difficult to think of me moving so far away. But they both know Jesus and wish for me to do His will. Pray I will be able to sell my business as I need to pay off my sewing machines.
